ANTISEMITIC EXPRESSION: DEMONIZATION;
DELEGITIMIZATION
2/16/17 – Sarah Schulman gave a talk entitled “Conflict is Not Abuse,” which was sponsored by KU Libraries, Office of Multicultural Affairs, the Department of English, the University Honors Program, the Department of American Studies, and The Commons. In her talk, Shulman used Israel’s response to Palestinians during the war in Gaza as an example of “systemic repetition of unjustified cruelty,” which she compared to “white police officers in Ferguson Missouri and Staten Island murder[ing] two unarmed black men” and to “a rich and powerful professional football player…beat[ing] his wife unconscious in an elevator.” She further demonized and delegitimized Israel by falsely accusing it of the “mass murder” of Palestinians and calling Israelis “colonial occupiers.”
DEMONIZATION;
DELEGITIMIZATION;
BDS ACTIVITY (BDS EVENT)
2/23/15 – An event entitled “In Our Power: U.S. Students Organize for Justice in Palestine” was sponsored by KU SJP, The Honors Program, and the Political Science Department, and featured BDS activist and journalist Nora Barrows-Friedman. Barrows-Friedman falsely accused Israel of “brutality” and “ethnic cleansing,” “racism,” “genocide,” “settler colonialism” and “apartheid”. The speaker also vigorously promoted BDS.
