2/16/17 – Sarah Schulman gave a talk entitled “Conflict is Not Abuse,” which was sponsored by KU Libraries, Office of Multicultural Affairs, the Department of English, the University Honors Program, the Department of American Studies, and The Commons. In her talk, Shulman used Israel’s response to Palestinians during the war in Gaza as an example of “systemic repetition of unjustified cruelty,” which she compared to “white police officers in Ferguson Missouri and Staten Island murder[ing] two unarmed black men” and to “a rich and powerful professional football player…beat[ing] his wife unconscious in an elevator.” She further demonized and delegitimized Israel by falsely accusing it of the “mass murder” of Palestinians and calling Israelis “colonial occupiers.”
2/23/15 – An event entitled “In Our Power: U.S. Students Organize for Justice in Palestine” was sponsored by KU SJP, The Honors Program, and the Political Science Department, and featured BDS activist and journalist Nora Barrows-Friedman. Barrows-Friedman falsely accused Israel of “brutality” and “ethnic cleansing,” “racism,” “genocide,” “settler colonialism” and “apartheid”. The speaker also vigorously promoted BDS.
BDS ACTIVITY: BDS EVENT 3/4/15 – Ali Abunimeh spoke about his book “The Battle for Justice in Palestine” and promoted BDS. His talk was sponsored by KU Students for Justice in the Middle East (SJME), Political Science at KU Student Senate, University of Kansas KU Global Awareness Program (GAP), and the KU Honors Program. Students could receive GAP credit for attending the talk.
