Classification Date-Description
3/25/16 – An antisemitic flier was distributed to networked printers and fax machines at locations on campus. The flier had swastikas and said, “White Man are you Sick and Tired of the Jews Destroying Your Country through Mass Immigration and Degeneracy? Join Us in the Struggle for Global White Supremacy at the Daily Stormer.”
3/28/18 – Smith SJP held a “Return the Birthright Day of Action.” Students held signs on the Chapin Lawn on campus explaining why they want to “return the birthright.” One sign said, “I will Return the Birthright because I refuse to tie my fate as a diaspora Jew to a settler-colonial project!” Another sign read, “I Return the Birthright because Settler-Colonialism is Bad.” The advertisement for the event demonized and delegitimized Israel stating, “We refuse to be complicit in a propaganda trip that whitewashes the systemic racism, and the daily violence faced by Palestinians living under endless occupation. Our Judaism is grounded in values of solidarity and liberation, not occupation and apartheid.”
2/18/18 – SJP posted pictures of Ahed Tamimi and fliers accompanying the images on campus. The fliers expressed support for BDS and referenced readers to “Queers Undermining Israeli Terrorism.”
12/14/17 – SJP released a statement on Jerusalem entitled “Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine,” which demonized and delegitimized Israel, stating, “Jerusalem…has retained its indigenous majority and has been the site of apartheid discrimination and creeping Zionist colonialism ever since it was first militarily occupied…the Israeli government has ethnically cleansed thousands of Palestinian Jerusalemites…Smith Students for Justice in Palestine condemns this decision (for the U.S. to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel)…it is a recognition and legitimization of war crimes and illegal occupation. It is a recognition and normalization of systematic oppression and institutionalized apartheid against the Palestinians.” The statement was distributed to the community at a tabling event the same day. A large banner behind the table read, “Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine.”
4/3/17 – SJP held an “Israeli Apartheid Week” on campus complete with the erection of a mock “apartheid wall.” The advertisement for “Israeli Apartheid Week” stated, “Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW) is an international series of events meant to shed a light on the settler colonial project and apartheid policies of Israel and build the growing Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.” These events and the wall were co-sponsored by Organizing for Undocumented Students’ Rights, Middle Eastern and North African Smith Alliance, and Smith Students for Food Justice.
DELEGITIMIZATION 3/8/17 – SJP spoke at a rally on campus, stating that SJP stands for “an end to apartheid” and is against the “apartheid wall,” falsely implying Israel engages in apartheid, and falsely accusing Israel of “settler-colonialism.”
4/18/16 – SJP posted a Facebook post advertising intent to protest a Smith Israel Alliance event that contained antisemitic expressions such as falsely accusing Israel of apartheid and ethnic cleansing,” colonialism, ethnic supremacism, and territorial expansionism” as well as “Zionism’s other victims,” and also called StandWithUs’ Israel Soldiers Tour a “whitewashing movement.”
BDS ACTIVITY: BDS EVENT 4/5/17 – SJP held the event, “Cultivating Resistance: Food Justice In Palestine (A Teach In).” The description for the event stated, “As part of Israeli Apartheid Week, Smith Students for Food Justice and Smith Students for Justice in Palestine are teaming up for a teach-in about land and water access, olive trees, and agricultural boycotts.”
