    Classification Date-Description
5/1/16 – A student displayed a swastika on the student’s computer in a university library. (The date of the incident is the reported date. The actual incident date is unknown).
DENIGRATION 3/10/16 – Palestine Legal released a statement that targeted the Marquette Jewish Student Union, falsely claiming that it was one of the two “hostile” groups that the university consulted with in order to base its decision to take SJP’s apartheid wall down. Jewish Student Union President Anna Goldstein stated in response, “Palestine Legal’s statement in regard to our organization is targeting, defaming and utterly false.”
2/1/16 – Social media posts about an incident at Marquette University (which does not have a large Jewish student body) in a student run Facebook group page were followed by comments such as: “Marquette caters to the rich Jewish kids of Milwaukee,” “I HATE Zionists,” and “Is it any surprise that Marquette is in league with Zionists.” (The exact date of the incident is approximated).
3/29/18 – UBLAC Milwaukee held the event, “Dr. Angela Davis Speaks at Marquette.” During the event, Davis delegitimized and demonized Israel. She claimed, “the State of Israel is the only settler colonial nation that is attempting to continue to expand.” Davis accused Israel of “ethnic cleansing policies” and “strategies of democraphic engineering.” She promoted the idea that Israel representing itself as “a haven in that part of the world for LGBTQ communities” is “pinkwashing.” Davis also expressed support for BDS, stating, “with respect to Palestine that [solidarity] work has brought the question of ending the occupation and the strategy of boycott divestment and sanction on to the agendas of many social justice movements across the country and around the world [audience applause].”
11/16/16 – SJP screened the film, “The Occupation of the American Mind: Israel’s Public Relations War in the United States.” In the film, several speakers condoned terrorism against Israelis by justifying all violence against Israel, including acts of terrorism against Israeli citizens, as legitimate “resistance.” Many of the speakers demonized Israel, falsely accusing the Israeli government of “terrorism,” “murderous attacks,” and “acting like a monster,” and calling Israeli soldiers’ actions “inhumane” and “brutal.”
DENYING JEWS SELF-DETERMINATION 4/14/16 – As part of “Israeli Apartheid Week,” SJP erected a mock “apartheid wall,” which was initially confiscated from the administration in February due to concerns about wording on the wall and later put up again in April. The wall contained the phrase, “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free,” which is effectively a call for the elimination of Israel as a Jewish state, as well as an image of all of Israel replaced with a Palestinian flag.
4/14/16 – A mock apartheid wall was set up by SJP on campus. The wall contained a common phrase that condones terrorism, “To exist is to resist” along with the phrase, “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free,” which is a call to effectively eliminate Israel.
3/2/15 – As part of “Israel Apartheid Week,” SJP hosted a table and mock wall containing images falsely accusing Israel of “crimes against humanity” and being an apartheid state.
DELEGITIMIZATION 2/25/15 – SJP and JVP – Milwaukee hosted a screening of the movie “Roadmap to Apartheid,” which delegitimizes Israel by falsely accusing it of being an apartheid state.
BDS ACTIVITY: BDS VOTES 4/27/15 – A divestment resolution was discussed in the student government on 4/21 and 4/28, and after all references to Israel were removed from it, the bill passed 25-3-0.
CALLS FOR BDS 3/24/15 – SJP announced that it had officially joined the anti-Israel divestment movement and written a divestment resolution to be considered by the students government.

The Link – The Immorality of it All
(Description note – Dr. Daniel C. Maguire teaches Moral Theology and Ethics at Marquette University in Milwaukee. He wrote an article entitled, “The Immorality of It All” which stated that, “Israel is the child of Zionism. Define Zionism and you have defined the moral underpinnings of Israel. There have been tortured back and forth debates about whether Zionism is racist: of course it is. At its core, Zionism is an imperial form of ethnic cleansing. Its moral heart is empire; its strategy is ethnic cleansing, the extirpation of one ethnic group to make room for Jews or those who tenuously claim to be Jews. Zionism is an ongoing process. Its inner logic allows no surcease until the ethnic outcasts are cast out.”)

Marquette Wire –  Students for Justice in Palestine receive legal assistance after mock apartheid wall removal
(Description note, “The statement addressed to Quade read, “Of significant concern is the fact that Ms. West consulted with individuals and groups known to be hostile to SJP’s views, and appears to have based the university’s decision to take down the wall on that group’s disapproval of SJP’s message.” In the footnotes, the statement listed these “hostile” groups to be campus ministry and the Jewish Student Union. “We played no role in the removal of SJP’s ‘apartheid wall,’” said Anna Goldstein, president of the Marquette Jewish Student Union and junior in the College of Arts & Sciences, in an email. “Palestine Legal’s statement in regard to our organization is targeting, defaming and utterly false.”)

(Description note, “Around 30 people protested and among them were members of Marquette’s Students for Justice in Palestine group. Gadeer Ayesh, a senior in the College of Health Sciences and president of SJP at Marquette, said SJP is a cultural and political group with the goal to educate people about Palestinian culture and politics. “We try to raise awareness about what’s actually going on in Palestine,” Ayesh said, adding that AIPAC is one of the largest organizations that work with the American government in support of sending money to Israel. “Israel is using that (money) for military use to help in their occupation and their massacre of Palestinian people,” she said. “We want to make clear that just because this conference is happening here in Milwaukee, that doesn’t mean we’re in support of it.”)

    April 28, 2015:
Marquette Wire – MUSG removes divestment clauses from investment recommendation
(Description note, “Marquette Student Government passed a recommendation on the floor calling for more socially responsible investments by the university, while removing all language regarding divestment. The legislation was passed after an executive session was called into action by the senate. Its name was changed from Socially Responsible Investments and Divestments to Socially Responsible Investments. Removed are several defining clauses that mention divesting or screening out companies that act against Marquette’s values. The changes remove any reference to companies that are complicit with human rights violations and the organizations that cite them… The meeting was called into an executive session after MUSG President Zack Wallace, a junior in the College of Arts & Sciences, revealed a document that had been circulating campus. It contains personal information about MUSG senators. “This document is a list of each of you (senators) individually, with your name, picture, as well as other personal information including your religious and political beliefs,” Wallace said. “This document also has assignments and plans of action to solicit your support for a particular topic.” Wallace said the Office of Student Affairs will be conducting an investigation regarding the document.”)

Marquette Wire – MUSG considers divesting from unethical companies
(Description note, “Murrar said his recommendation for Marquette differs from other divestment movements at colleges across the nation because it does not include specific language regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. At the meeting, students spoke in opposition and in favor of the recommendation. Jnana Martin, a freshman in the College of Communication, said the recommendation is a “myopic” and “one-sided” approach to the Israeli-Palestinian issue. “This campaign has made Israel and students who support Israel as ‘the other,’ through intimidation, mistruth and alienation,” Martin said.”)
