3/4/18 – Kent Wired published an article supporting SJP’s “Apartheid Week” that stated, “If being an apartheid state means systematic oppression, committing inhumane acts and racial domination over one group, the United Nations has ruled that Israel is guilty.” The article further quoted SJP’s president, stating, “When you have a state that is committing ethnic cleansing, it is essential to hold onto culture and the dream of returning home.”
2/14/18 – SJP and Black United Students held the event, “When I see them, I see us” with a student speaker and Devon Springer. During the event, a student speaker claimed, “there’s three pillars to the BDS movement. They are not B D and S. They are end the occupation, end the apartheid, and the right of return” and the “ongoing nakba” was defined by the student as “the Arabic word for Israel’s ethnic cleansing.” Devon Springer then added demonizing language, claiming, “we actually saw first hand…the effects that Israeli exchange program has on black Americans here in Atlanta…People from the community were trying to bring us bottled water, food and medicine because we planned on occupying this space for several days. And the police were actually pouring out water bottles and they were stacking up food and eating our food and not letting us get food in, they weren’t letting medicine into our occupation zone…this is actually a tactic used on Palestinians all the time…the officers during the protest that were implementing these tactics…went to the Israeli exchange program.”
DEMONIZATION 1/31/18 – SJP held the event, “Pinkwashing 101.” Pinkwashing is a demonizing term implying that Israel is malevolently representing itself as a safe haven for LGBQT people in order to hide Israel’s “crimes.”
3/23/17 – SJP held the event, “IAW Speaker Event: From South Africa to Palestine” with Dr. John Trimble. During the event, Trimble alluded to historical tropes of Jewish control, stating, “a lot of the apartheid economic power is in the hands of Zionists…the power that they wield is apparent in the different things that are happening. This is a key example. On the one hand the Jewish student union is telling the president of the university, you need to get rid of this person…because he put something on his facebook admiring Hitler and any time you say something about Hitler that’s like [laughs] you’re ex-communicated whatever so this was interesting experience and I raise this with some of the activists and they say yes it’s really a reality in terms of the Zionist power.” He further went on to say, “it’s only Zionism that had that type of insidious Zionist machinery globally,” to which an audience member stated “Yeah, and don’t forget the media” and Trimble replied, “That’s part of that Zionist operation.” Trimble additionally demonized and delegitimized Israel, as well as denied Jews self-determination throughout, stating, “the Israeli community and the Israeli state was built on apartheid…I think there are four ways of apartheid in Israel. First, history: they faked the history, they faked it back…They are concentrating on that right that they have a right to be there and it is a lie…the construction of Israel was based on injustice and apartheid. They took the land from Arabs, from Palestinians…” and “Zionists want to take all of Palestine and more…so it’s that insidious nature as an ideology that is backwards that it has to be opposed.” During the Q & A, Trimble further claimed, “we have to define Jewish people [he uses the quote/end quote hand gesture when saying “Jewish people”] …I don’t ‘see that there is a Jewish people…there is nothing called Jewish people.” Furthermore, one audience member questioned of another, “Do you see parallels between Zionism and white supremacy?” to which the audience member replied, “Well, it’s one and the same. There’s no separation. Zionism is just an aspect of white supremacy, you can’t make a separation.”
3/22/17– As part of “Israeli Apartheid Week,” SJP erected an “apartheid wall” where one panel had the delegitimizing heading, “End Israeli Apartheid,” and another panel said, “Join the Movement. BDS. Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions.”
DELEGITIMIZATION 3/21/17 – SJP held a screening of “Roadmap to Apartheid,” a film which delegitimizes Israel by falsely accusing it of being an apartheid state.
3/20/17 – SJP held the event, “IAW. A Night in Palestine: Two Perspectives” to “define Apartheid using real life examples of the difference between a Jew and a Palestinian visiting Palestine under the control of Israeli Occupation.” During the event, the two speakers both delegitimized Israel with accusations of apartheid, including saying, “Apartheid, what we mean by apartheid, is not just the difference between white Jews in Israel and Arabs in Israel, but the difference between all that Israel controls which includes Palestinians living in the West Bank and Gaza…” as well as stating, “I want to see in the near future of the wider acceptance of the recent UN report that was put out declaring that Israel is an apartheid state. Then putting increased pressure on Israel to give equal rights to Palestinians like why the [expletive] not? ‘Cuz any loser in the Jewish majority is…get over it. Nationalism should have died with Nazism.” Additionally, a speaker promoted BDS stating, “My message would be BDS, Boycott Israel. Apartheid in South Africa was able to be defeated by boycotts and sanctions. The same thing would happen with the apartheid regime in Palestine.”
DEMONIZATION 11/20/16 – An Associate Professor in the department of Political Science, Joshua Stacher, published an op-ed in the school newspaper in defense of removing late prime minister Golda Meir’s picture and quote from a campus building. In his op-ed, Stacher demonized Israel, falsely accusing the state of “ethnic cleansing” and Meir of denying it.
DEMONIZATION 11/1/16 – An SJP member published an op-ed in the independent news site for Kent State University requesting that a picture and quote of Golda Meir be removed from campus. The op-ed demonized Israel, falsely accusing the Jewish state of “ethnic cleansing.”

(Description note, “Several days later, Students for Justice in Palestine — as well as several other student organizations, including Spanish and Latino Student Association, the Ohio Student Association, the Muslim Student Association and Black United Students — requested a quote in Bowman Hall said by former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir be taken down due to Meir’s blatantly racist policies while in office. The university has yet to act on taking down the quote, and as of Sunday, hasn’t responded to an accusation of terrorism emailed on behalf of the student leaders and university faculty who supported the removal of the quote. Rahul Saksena, a staff attorney for Palestine Legal, sent Warren a letter regarding the university’s “failure to offer any support for them and other members of the campus community who have been falsely accused of supporting terrorism,” according to the letter. Universities around the country are dealing with the popularization of white-supremacist and discriminatory viewpoints, and Kent State is no different.”)

    November 20, 2016:
Kent Wired – The Kent Stater  – Opinion: The debate over our walls- Who was Golda Meir, and what’s the issue?
(Description note, “Meir, in her 1969 statement, not only misinterprets history, but she also denies the ethnic cleansing required for Israel’s establishment happened. Therefore, this privileges a history that denies the Palestinian Nakba — as an event and an ongoing structure — ever happened. It does not matter what Meir knew at the time of the forced expulsion of Palestinians. The fact of the matter is she would have known this happened by 1969, and she would have also known Palestinian citizens of Israel lived under a regime of military restrictions between 1949-1966. Meir was complicit through her statement and in denying the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. This is what Palestinian students and their allies find reprehensible about her portrait decorating Kent State’s walls. When Kent State administration decided not to remove the quote, it lead students to question the university’s values. The decision catered to some students over others, who continue to feel marginalized. This issue could be resolved if a more universal and inclusive figure replaced Meir’s portrait.”)

(Description note, “Your message is an apt and appreciated expression of our core values of freedom of expression and the free exchange of ideas, and of a commitment to respect, kindness and purpose in all we do,” Provost Todd Diacon wrote in his letter to SJP President Mousa. “This matter also is an apt and welcomed opportunity to explore our core value of respect for the diversity of culture, beliefs, identity and thought. As a result of your letter Dean Jim Blank and I viewed all of the quotes in the Bowman hallways, which come from a diverse cross-section of world and thought leaders. Given the complexities of our day, there is no doubt that any number of these individuals might be viewed as objectionable to some members of our diverse community. Creating a learning environment that presents far-reaching perspectives means that we may create circumstances that challenge the sensibilities of some individuals. While I honor your concerns, removing the quote from Golda Meir, which is nonsectarian and which reasonably could be read by many as inspirational, would be counter to our core institutional value of supporting a diversity of cultures, beliefs, identities and thought. We will not remove the quotation. However, please know that Bowman Hall is scheduled for an upgrade of its heating and air conditioning system, and as part of this work we had previously decided to remove all quotations and repaint the interior hallways. Work will take place during the summer of 2017.”)

A non-racist Jewish voice…[I] can’t imagine that students who are ideologically or emotionally attached to the state of Israel would agree and accept this idea.”)
