    Classification Date-Description
4/12/18 – According to a campus crime report, “On April 12 at 3:45 p.m., EPD met with multiple individuals at the Institute for the Study of Modern Israel (ISMI) at Emory in the Luce Center in reference to anti-Semitic threats made over voicemail. One of the complainants reported that at 3:12 p.m., she received a voicemail on her work phone from an unknown male caller. The caller reportedly said, ‘Jews are terrorists’; ‘We want to kill every Jew on Earth and we will’; ‘Jews are evil’; ‘Every Jew is going to get murdered’; and ‘I’m gonna shoot a Jew with a gun.’ One of the complainants said that ISMI has publicized an upcoming event which may have triggered someone to call in and leave the threats.”
11/11/15 – Canadian-Israeli journalist David Sheen spoke about racism and homophobia in Israel. In his talk, Sheen employed several antisemitic tropes: Sheen falsely accused Israel of being a racist state whose leadership aspired towards a “theocracy” whose goal is to ignite a “race war” through violent means, including by “burning babies,” firebombing, stabbing attacks and other acts of brutality towards Arabs, black Africans and LGBTQ individuals; he demonized sacred Jewish texts, including the Torah, Talmud, and Tanya, accusing them of being deeply racist and calling for the brutal murder of non-Jews and homosexuals; and he compared “racist” Jews who believe that Jews should not intermarry to Nazis, calling efforts to prevent intermarriage “a eugenics program.” Sheen’s talk was sponsored by JVP-Atlanta Chapter, Joining Hands for Justice in Israel and Palestine, Interfaith Peace Builders, Presbyterian Peacemaking Partnership of Atlanta, SJP-Emory University, NAACP-Emory University, Black Student Alliance-Emory University.
DELEGITIMIZATION 2/26/15 – Emory SJP hosted a screening of “Roadmap to Apartheid,” a film which delegitimizes Israel by falsely accusing it of being an apartheid state.
DELEGITIMIZATION 2/22/15 – SJP set up a wall display on the Dobbs University Center Terraces that included the words “ISRAEL IS AN APARTHEID STATE” in large letters.
BDS ACTIVITY: BDS EVENT 3/23/15 – Emory SJP held a meeting to discuss BDS and ways to support it.

The Emory Wheel – Israel Must Choose Between Being a Jewish or Democratic State
(Description note – an op-ed is published endorsing violence stating, “Lacking political representation, and given the lack of British response to petitions from the colonists, revolutionary colonists resorted to violence. I understand Palestinian political violence largely to be a response to the systematic denial of Palestinian human rights and the lack of a non-violent means of rectifying the situation. Thus, I believe the only way to end the violence is to support non-violent processes to adjudicate the various disputes involved, and I believe international law and human rights must guide these processes. Blaming Palestinian incitement ignores the reasons Palestinians are motivated to use violence and ignores Jewish-Israeli incitement….While Schaefer’s op-ed does address various details about the situation in Israel and Palestine, it does little to challenge the fundamental claims of my previous op-ed (such as that Israel is a Jewish supremacist state)”)

The Emory Wheel – No Coexistence Without Inclusion
(Description note, “When the State of Israel was founded in 1948 (on what had until then been Palestinian land), it expelled more than 750,000 Palestinians who had been living there. While the United Nations recognized the right of these Palestinians to return to their land in 1948, Israel has not, however, and has generally barred them from the country, so their descendants and them (whose total number is now estimated to be between 4.6 million and 7.6 million) are excluded from the State of Israel. Do these Palestinians have a right to “coexist” with Israelis?”)

Jewish Journal – The effective way to combat anti-Israel activity on campus: Public relations
(Description note, “There has been an incredible growth of anti-Semitism on college campuses in North America. Too often anti-Israel sentiment is simply a veiled and more culturally appropriate form of anti-Semitism. ..This past October, swastikas were painted on the Jewish fraternity house at Emory University in Atlanta, just one day after Yom Kippur, the holiest Jewish day of the year. In May 2014, it was discovered that professors at Temple University were participating in a listserv that contained anti-Israel and anti-Semitic rhetoric, including a denial of the Holocaust. And this March, a student at UCLA was initially rejected from applying to the Student Council’s Judicial Board because she was Jewish. Much of this anti-Semitism stems from anti-Israel sentiment — or possibly vice versa; regardless, people feel emboldened these days to express anti-Israel and anti-Semitic views.”)

Racial slurs were also yelled at Alpha Epsilon Pi members during an intramural football game in October.”)

We ask all members of our community to weigh these responsibilities carefully when exercising their right to open expression. Let us deliberate ideas, ideologies, and policies with which we disagree, rather than target individuals or groups with whom we disagree,” wrote Nair.”)
