  • May 23, 2017 – Dartmouth University (Dartmouth Students for Israel Executive Members) “In the wake of these irreconcilable contradictions, Dartmouth Students for Israel firmly believes that Professor Duthu’s decision was honorable. His decision recognized that support for BDS is incompatible with the commitment to academic freedom and integrity required of college administrators. Dartmouth Students for Israel remains committed to the principles of academic freedom and debate. We implore the Dartmouth administration to ensure that those principles apply to Israelis, too.” Read more
  • May 11, 2017 – Dartmouth University Jewish Student (Sandor) “I think Dartmouth College has shown a remarkable disregard for the concerns of the Jewish community by inviting renowned BDS advocate and Israel-hater Linda Sarsour…While I want to believe that this coincidence [of two anti-Israel incidents in one week] is nothing more than administrative incompetence, OPAL’s refusal to co-sponsor an event with an Israeli speaker demonstrates otherwise. I am deeply saddened to graduate knowing that my Jewish friends on campus may face real hatred and discrimination, not only from other students, but from the highest levels of the college administration.” Read more
  • May 6, 2016 – University of Dartmouth College Jewish Student (Matthew) “I believe that in GRID’s sponsoring of Puar’s speech, they were sponsoring anti-Semitic rhetoric, because it kept fully in line with what she has said before.” Read more

4/30/16 – Jasbir Puar gave an April 30 presentation at a panel sponsored by the Gender Research Institute. The panel was entitled, “Inhumanist Biopolitics: How Palestine Matters.” During her talk, Puar demonized Israel by claiming that Israel deliberately maims Palestinians (especially noting youth and children) and delegitimized Israel by claiming this maiming was, “used to achieve the tactical aims of settler colonialism.”

Members of Dartmouth Students for Israel protested Sarsour’s event by holding posters and Israeli flags outside of Dartmouth Hall and distributing fliers that called Sarsour a fake feminist and [Boycott, Divest, Sanctions movement] advocate. “Us being out here today in front of Dartmouth Hall sends a strong message to the Dartmouth community that we stand strongly united against anti-Semitism,” DSI member Joshua Kauderer ’19 said. “DSI is very upset,”…During the event, the protestors stood in the back of the room holding flags and asked her several questions relating to her position regarding BDS during the subsequent question and answer session.”)

(Description note, “Kan also claimed that while Puar never directly mentioned Jews in her speech, her remarks are consistent with a trend where attacks on Israel question not just its policies, but also its very existence. On that level, he said, the speech approaches anti-Semitism. Chabad co-president Matthew Goldstein ’18 had stronger views. Speaking in a personal capacity, he said that Puar’s statements fit three criteria of how anti-Semitism could potentially manifest in anti-Israel speech: demonization, double standards and delegitimization. For the first, he pointed to Puar’s past statements that claim Israel engages in organ harvesting from Palestinians, which he connected to past anti-Semitic rhetoric of blood libel.”)
