TARGETING JEWISH STUDENTS AND STAFF: SUPPRESSION OF SPEECH/MOVEMENT/ASSEMBLY;
DEMONIZATION;
DELEGITIMIZATION
11/6/17 – SJP bragged about “successfully disrupt[ing] a talk by Shany Mor, the former director of foreign policy for the Israeli National Security Council” in a social media post. In justifying the disruption, SJP delegitimized and demonized Israel, stating, “We are opposed to the normalization of apartheid, settler colonialism, and ethnic cleansing on our campus…. To treat someone who served in a high-ranking position within an apartheid state, tasked with writing policy for and internationally justifying the actions of that state, as not only a regular academic but one worthy of fellowships and platforms, obscures his direct contributions to the oppression and subjugation of the Palestinian people, including our fellow students at Al Quds…We do not accept the normalization of this kind of rhetoric on our campus, especially when our college serves as the only American institution to grant degrees in the West Bank. These arguments and his role within the Israeli executive office, stand in direct contradiction to the safety, livelihood, and liberation of Palestinians and our fellow students and it will not be tolerated.”
